The College of Wooster women's soccer team suffered its first loss in seven games and its first loss in North Coast Athletic Conference play as they fell to Wittenberg University 3-1 on Wednesday.
Yet, Wooster started on the right foot, scoring the opening goal in the fifth minute as Bella Crompton scored off the assist from Annie Henegar. It was the sophomore Crompton's third goal of the season.
With the assist, Henegar ties Hallie Krzys with a team-high 16 points.
The Scots enjoyed the 1-0 lead for just eight minutes when Wittenberg tied the game on a goal from Caroline Stupp.
The tie stuck for 27 minutes until a Wittenberg goal from Chamberlain Browning gave the Tigers the lead for good. The insurance goal came in the 49th minute on a strike from Alex Hill to make it 3-1.
Wooster ended up outshooting the Tiger 14-12.
Goalkeeper Kameryn Nelson played the full 90 minutes and made six saves. Her counterpart, Lily Winkle, made three saves.
Wittenberg moves to 3-4-3 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC. The Scots drop to 8-2-2 and 1-1 in the NCAC.
Next, Wooster will host Oberlin College on Oct. 16.
