It was a tough Wednesday for The College of Wooster women's soccer team, who lost 1-0 to Oberlin College as the teams played in weather hitting the mid-40's.
It was a critical North Coast Athletic Conference game for both teams, who each entered the contest at 1-1 in the early goings of the season.
However, it was Oberlin who would score the game's lone goal and leave on top.
Oberlin scored in the 16th minute in a situation where some attention from Wooster players was directed to one of their own down on the grass.
Yet, Oberlin (6-5-1, 2-1 NCAC) had possession and took advantage. Lauren Roche launched a ball downfield to find Heather Benway who put one touch on the ball and scored past Wooster keeper Amanda Flory.
Wooster outshot Oberlin 8-6 in the first half and kept the offensive pressure on in the second, outshooting the Yeowomen 8-4.
Wooster had one prime opportunity with seconds remaining, but a shot by Bella Crompton was saved by Oberlin keeper Ali Grant.
Both Grant and Flory ended with three saves. Five cards were issued between the teams with Oberlin obtaining three.
Wooster moves to 8-2-2 overall and 1-2 in the NCAC.
Next, the Scots travel to Denison University on Saturday.
