Henegar Surprises Big Red to Give Scots 1-0 Win

GRANVILLE – The College of Wooster women's soccer team kept the pressure on Denison University on Saturday and left with a crucial 1-0 win in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Specifically, sophomore Abby Henegar never let up and scored the game's lone goal on a play that caught everyone by surprise.

After Wooster sent the ball downfield on a goal kick, Denison gained possession and worked the ball to its own backfield. It was normal as usual.

However, with the ball at the feet of keeper Wynne Hague expecting a clearance, Henegar rushed in, got her foot in front of a pass and sent the ball straight into the back of the net with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game. 

It broke a scoring drought for the Scots, who hadn't scored in four halves, and it broke a two-game skid in a tight NCAC race after the Scots witheld the Denison attack in the final 10 minutes of play.

Wooster moves to 9-3-2 overall and 2-2 in the NCAC, while Denison drops to 7-4-3 and takes their first loss in the NCAC to move to 2-1-1.

Junior goalkeeper Kameryn Nelson put in the work for the shutout, making a career-high nine saves. Denison outshot the Scots 16-13 and had 11 shots on goal to Wooster's five.

The Scots return home Tuesday when they host Hiram College in another NCAC contest.
