GREENCASTLE, Ind. – In one of the two North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal matchups on Wednesday, the second-seeded DePauw University Tigers avenged their season finale loss to The College of Wooster women's soccer team, defeating the Scots 1-0.
The third-seeded Scots, who defeated DePauw 1-0 this past Saturday, never got much going and were playing from behind from the get-go.
DePauw surprised the Scots with a goal in just the fourth minute of the game. DePauw obtained possession and pushed the ball downfield where junior Ellie Mahan put on the final touches with a strike past junior keeper Kameryn Nelson.
It was Mahan's second goal of the year.
From there, Wooster was in attack mode but could not find the equalizer. They outshot DePauw 8-6, but DePauw (11-5-3) held the advantage on shots on goal at 4-3.
Senior Hallie Krzys and first-year Annie Henegar each took three shots for Wooster.
Nelson and DePauw keeper Aubree Empie each made three saves in the contest.
In the other Wednesday matchup, Wittenberg University upset Denison University, 2-1. DePauw will host Wittenberg in the championship game on Saturday.
For Wooster, they finish with a record of 11-4-3 – reaching double-digit wins for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
