Senior Salute - Maggie Stieby
Spanish major is member of women's soccer team
Our "Senior Salute" series kicks off with Maggie Stieby from the women's soccer team. Stieby is a Spanish major from Fort Thomas, Kentucky.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: Wooster was the perfect combination of strong academics and athletics, while also having a strong sense of community! I really clicked with the people when I first arrived on campus. The support system I have here is truly endless.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: I am so lucky to be part of such an incredible team while at college. The atmosphere women's soccer has created is really special and it is really awesome to bring that out onto the field each week.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Some of our biggest wins like the North Coast Athletic Conference semifinal in 2021 and senior day this year were very memorable. My fondest memories are really in the locker room or at practice each day. I laugh and smile a lot with this team!
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Having a family from the second you arrive on campus is a gamechanger. I have really appreciated having people who constantly check in with me on and off the field. Getting to play the sport I love each day is a great outlet.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a resident assistant, a tour guide for admissions, a health coach through the College's partnership with the Wooster Community Hospital Community Care Network, and president of Delta Theta Psi sorority.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Hernán Medina Jiménez, Dr. Paul Bonvallet, and Dr. Terry Reeder have all been really impactful during my time here. These professors aways went out of their way to support me in all realms of my life.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: My coaches have played a huge role in my time here at Wooster, especially as a first-year. Coach Les Szabo always lightens up my day!
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am studying various forms of activism and public protests within the Ni Una Menos movement in South America to analyze how it influenced public policy for sexual and reproductive healthcare.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the spring of my sophomore year!
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Give yourself grace and take each day one at a time!
