Senior Salute - Ellie Saguto

Our "Senior Salute" series continues with Ellie Saguto, a political science and sociology major from Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Saguto is a member of the women's soccer team.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend The College of Wooster because of the small, inclusive environment. The community is like no other and fosters a supporting and positive environment.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means I am a part of a community filled with hardworking, encouraging, and kind individuals. It means I have the privilege to represent my school while doing the sport I love with an amazing group of people.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Some of my favorite memories as a student are attending sporting events, mornings at Old Main Café, and spending time with my friends.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete at Wooster is being part of an encouraging and inspiring environment that always pushes you to do your best.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I was involved in Model UN.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Anne Nurse had the greatest impact on me because her class deviance and criminology helped me determine what I want to pursue following graduation.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: My coaches, Coach Geordie Brown and Coach Wes Davis, have had a positive impact on my Wooster experience. They supported me and served as a valuable resource during my time at Wooster.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am studying the impact of the criminal justice system on political participation and civic engagement. I studied theory on the topics of consent of the governed and legitimacy (procedural justice) and examined these topics in relation to the United States criminal justice system. I conducted a survey with students at the College for my research.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Something cool I did as a student at Wooster was take a class where a portion of it was a joint class with students in a juvenile correctional facility in Massillon, Ohio. This class was titled deviance and criminology and was an incredibly interesting and eye-opening experience.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: I would tell my first-year self to calm down and take a breath because everything is going to be fine. I always found myself worrying about every little thing. I wish I could just tell my first-year self that I was going to be just fine and everything was going to work out the way it was meant to.
