In their final tune-up prior to the North Coast Athletic
Conference Tournament, The College of Wooster women's tennis
team had its hands full Monday, hitting the road for its last
regular-season match with No. 8-ranked Denison University. The Big
Red lived up to the billing via a 9-0 victory over the Fighting
Scots down inside the Mitchell Center in Granville, Ohio.
Denison (11-6, 3-0 NCAC West), also the No. 2-ranked team within
the Central Region, surrendered just five games in the doubles
matches. At No. 1, Kelsey Jenkins and Ashley Stockwell fell by an
8-2 tally, while in No. 2 doubles' play, Boo Flynn and Brenna
Hart were defeated via an 8-3 score.
Wooster (5-14, 0-3 NCAC East) didn't fair much better in
singles, combining for just 14 games total. A good part of those
came at No. 4, where Erin Bauer put up a good fight against her
opponent before succumbing 6-2, 6-4. Additionally at No. 6, Lauren
Grimanis, playing in just her third match of the spring, hung with
Denison's Maggie Colvin before falling 6-2, 6-3.
The Scots will look to close out the season on a positive note at
the NCAC Tournament, hosted by Kenyon College on Friday and
Saturday.
