Scots Notch First Win of Season In Convincing Fashion

The College of Wooster women's tennis team evened its record to 1-1 on the young 2009 season, with an emphatic 9-0 rout of visiting Muskingum College Wednesday afternoon. In the victory, the Scots never dropped more than three games in a set.

In doubles action, junior Elissa Lauber and freshman Kelsey Jenkins started things off posting an 8-1 victory over Nicole Meyer and Molly Hoover in No. 1 doubles play. The duo of juniors Brenna Hart and Erin Bauer blanked the duo of Caroline Giammarco and Amanda Chema for Muskingum at No. 2 doubles, while freshman Boo Flynn teamed up with classmate Ashley Stockwell at No. 3, and followed suit with an 8-0 win over the Muskingum pair of Sarah Fraley and Laura Gibson.

The Scots (1-1) put the match away with ease in singles play, besting the Muskies (0-2) in straight sets during all six matches. Lauber improved to 2-0 on the season, cruising by scores of 6-1, 6-1 over Meyer in the No. 1 slot, while Stockwell eased past Giammarco by scores of 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Wooster continued its strong play, sweeping through singles spots three through six with ease. Hart picked up her first of the season at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Hoover. Rounding out the singles results were Jenkins at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 over Chema for the Muskies, Bauer, who beat Muskingum's Carrie Sanor 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Flynn, who swept past Jenni Gramstad 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 slot.

The Scots will be off from action until it travels to Hilton Head, S.C. for its spring break trip. Wooster will clash with the Olivet College Comets on March 12 at 12 p.m. in the first of six contests during their annual trip.
