The College of Wooster women's tennis team won its
non-conference match at Malone University rather handily on
Tuesday, doubling up the Pioneers 6-3 in Canton, Ohio.
Wooster (3-7) set the tone by prevailing in two of the three
doubles matches, highlighted by a hard-fought 8-6 decision for
Elissa Lauber and Kelsey Jenkins at the No. 1 position. That raised
their record together to 3-5, while Ashley Stockwell and Boo Flynn
provided the Fighting Scots' other doubles point with a
dominant 8-1 victory at No. 3. The Stockwell-Flynn combination is
an even 5-5 this season.
In singles action, Wooster lost at the top of the lineup, but still
cruised to the win with straight-set triumphs at No. 2, No. 3, No.
4, and No. 6. Stockwell, Jenkins, and Flynn were all double winners
on the day, as Stockwell prevailed 6-2, 6-3 in the second position,
Jenkins 6-3, 6-3 against her fourth singles opponent, and Flynn
6-1, 6-1 at the sixth slot. Brenna Hart, who was not part of
doubles, took a first set tiebreaker 7-1 and then cruised in the
second set to the tune of 6-2.
The Scots will be back in action late Friday afternoon at Case
Western Reserve University (1-11).
