The College of Wooster women's tennis team opened up North
Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon, suffering
a 9-0 setback to Allegheny College at the Central Tennis and
Fitness Center.
The Scots never found their rhythm, as the No. 2 doubles tandem of
Brenna Hart and Erin Bauer and the No. 3 duo of Boo Flynn and
Ashley Stockwell dropped identical 8-6 decisions to their
counterparts, and the Gators also claimed the No. 1 doubles point
to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
In singles action, Allegheny eased through the first two matches
before Hart, Wooster's No. 3 player, fought hard before
losing the first set by a 7-6 count, 7-2 in the tiebreaker, and a
6-3 mark in the second set. The visitors cruised through the final
three matches with straight-set victories to seal the Scots'
fate.
With the loss, Wooster dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in NCAC East
action, while Allegheny improved to 8-5 overall and notches their
first win in as many attempts in league play.
The Scots have little time to recover as they play host to
non-conference foe Heidelberg University (1-0) on Thursday in a
match beginning at 4 p.m.
