Northeast Ohio rivals Case Western Reserve University and
College of Wooster were evenly matched on the women's tennis
court late Friday, but it was the Spartans who were able to prevail
by a 5-3 count in Cleveland, Ohio.
The two teams split the six singles matches, with Case Western
Reserve (2-11) winning all three in the top half of the lineup and
Wooster (3-8) exhibiting its superior depth with a sweep of the
lower half. Scot freshman Kelsey Jenkins had the easiest time,
defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, while teammates Erin
Bauer and Boo Flynn also won in straight sets at No. 5 (6-4, 6-2)
and No. 6 (6-4, 6-4), respectively.
Wooster nearly scored another point, as Elissa Lauber dropped a
tough three-setter to Marta Worwag at No. 1 singles – 4-6,
6-3, 1-0 (10-5).
The Spartans clinched the victory via 8-2 and 8-5 decisions at
first and second doubles, respectively, and with the outcome
determined, third doubles did not finish.
