Scots Pick Up Fourth Victory in 6-3 Win Over Heidelberg

The College of Wooster women's tennis team came out on top in its non-conference match Thursday afternoon, coming out victorious over regional foe Heidelberg University 6-3. The win improves the Fighting Scots' record to 4-10 on the season, while the Student Princes fall to 2-3.

Wooster began the day winning two of three doubles matches as Elissa Lauber and Kelsey Jenkins won at No. 1 by an 8-3 count. After Heidelberg tied the match with an 8-5 victory at No. 2, the tandem of Ashley Stockwell and Boo Flynn improved to 7-5 in doubles action this season with an 8-0 blanking at No. 3.

Lauber started the Scots off in singles play with a point at No. 1, handing Amanda Hanning a straight-set loss 6-0, 6-2. She evened her season mark at 7-7 with the win. Stockwell followed suit in the No. 2 spot, dealing Elizabeth Kurtzman a 6-4, 6-2 defeat.

The Scots also gained valuable points at No. 4, as Jenkins bested Kayla Gerber (6-4, 7-5), and at No. 6 via a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win by Flynn, who upped her season record to 9-5 overall with the come-from-behind victory over Heidelberg's Darcy Young.

Wooster, sitting at 0-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference Eastern division, looks to improve its divisional standing when it plays host to Kenyon College (7-7, 0-0 NCAC East) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
