Scots Struggle at Great Lakes Colleges Association Tournament

The College of Wooster women's tennis team struggled at the Great Lakes Colleges Association Tournament, as Hope College and Kalamazoo College overwhelmed the Scots, and OberlinOberlin College topped them in a more competitive match over the weekend at Oberlin, Ohio.

The Scots (4-10) gave Oberlin a run, as Boo Flynn and Ashley Stockwell scored a convincing 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles that tied the match 1-1. Wooster missed some opportunities to gain control in singles action, as Stockwell took a narrow 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 super tiebreaker loss at No. 2, and Erin Bauer fell at No. 4 (6-4, 3-6, 10-5) in another close match that went the distance. Lauren Grimanis did pick up a win at No. 6 singles, but Wooster dropped the match 2-7.

Wooster was overmatched in 0-9 setbacks to both Hope and Kalamazoo, but there were some noteworthy efforts. Kelsey Jenkins held her own in No. 5 singles action against Hope in a 6-2, 6-3 setback, and Grimanis was solid in a 6-2, 6-4 loss against Kalamazoo at the No. 6 spot. The Scots also had some respectable doubles battles with Kalamazoo, as No. 2 duo Flynn and Stockwell, and No. 3 Erin Bauer and Suzanne Hamby both missed out in 8-5 defeats.

Following a week break, the Scots will be back in action when they host conference foe KenyonKenyon College at 4:30 p.m. on April 12.
