OWU Uses Come Back in Singles to Get Past Wooster 5-4

Ohio WesleyanOhio Wesleyan University pulled out a nailbiter over The College of Wooster in women's tennis action Thursday afternoon at Wooster's D.J. Hard Memorial Courts, as the Battling Bishops bounced back from a 2-1 doubles deficit to prevail 5-4.

With victories at the top-two doubles positions, the Fighting Scots (4-12) appeared to be on their way to ending a four-match losing skid. Elissa Lauber and Kelsey Jenkins battled their way to a 9-7 triumph at No. 1, while Ashley Stockwell and Boo Flynn had a slightly easier time at No. 2, with the 8-5 decision marking their seventh victory of the season.

Stockwell was a double winner, coming up with a 7-5, 6-2 score in her favor at No. 2 singles, and Lauren Grimanis proved to be reliable again, adding a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the sixth spot. Grimanis now holds a team-best 9-7 singles record on the year.

With all of the other singles matches ending in straight sets, the decisive match came down to No. 3 where Flynn put forth a good effort before falling 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Emily Kiourtsis of Ohio Wesleyan (4-8).

The Scots will be back in action Saturday afternoon at North Coast Athletic Conference East Division foe Allegheny College (3-12, 0-0 NCAC East).
