Scot Netters Top Earlham 5-0, Finish Seventh at NCAC Championships

Erin Bauer The College of Wooster battled against nationally ranked DenisonDenison University and Ohio WesleyanOhio Wesleyan University to no avail on Friday, but a decisive 5-0 triumph over Earlham College on Saturday secured the Scots their second-consecutive seventh-place nod at the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Granville, Ohio.

The Scots (5-16, 0-3 NCAC) were relentless in doubles action against the Quakers (7-8, 0-3 NCAC), dropping them by a combined 24-2, highlighted by an 8-0 blanking via No. 2 tandem Ashley Stockwell and Boo Flynn. No. 1 Elissa Lauber and Kelsey Jenkins, and No. 3 Suzanne Hamby and Erin Bauer both won their matches 8-1.

Then in singles, Stockwell became a double-winner with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot, and Brenna Hart tallied a 6-3, 6-3 victory to complete the quick 5-0 sweep.

Wooster struggled in its second meeting this week with powerhouse Denison, dropping the match 6-0, but Lauber hung in to take three sets at the No. 1 singles spot. Ohio Wesleyan also topped Wooster (5-2) during the tournament's opening day, with No. 6 singles Lauren Grimanis (6-4, 6-0) and No. 3 doubles Bauer and Hamby (9-8, 7-5) notching the Scots' wins.
