Wooster Falls 7-2 Against Oberlin in NCAC Opener

The College of Wooster women's tennis team dropped its first North Coast Athletic Conference match of the season Thursday 7-2 to visiting Oberlin College on the D.J. Hard Memorial Courts at Wooster, Ohio.

Wooster (6-6, 0-1 NCAC) took a closely contested loss at No. 1 doubles to start the day, as Ashley Stockwell and Kelsey Jenkins came up short 8-6.

In singles, Suzanne Hamby provided the team's highlight, as she went unharmed in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 5. Lauren Gilliss was also impressive, giving up just one point in her 6-0, 6-1 victory against her No. 6 opponent. The Scots got a solid showing from No. 2 Jenkins as well, as she pushed her opponent to a third set before taking 3-6, 7-5, 3-10 setback.

Wooster will look to get back above .500 in the standings tomorrow when they host Capital University (0-3) at 4 p.m.
