The College of Wooster exhibited its depth by winning matches in the bottom-third of the singles and doubles lineups, however, it was unable to pull out some other close ones which allowed host Ohio Wesleyan University to prevail 6-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference women's tennis action at Delaware, Ohio, Wednesday.

The doubles competition saw Lauren Gilliss and Cory Smith earn an 8-5 decision in their favor at the third position, but Wooster (7-8, 0-3 NCAC) dropped the two others to fall behind. That 2-1 deficit easily could have been the other way around, as a tight match at No. 1 went to Ohio Wesleyan (4-7, 1-3 NCAC) by an 8-6 score.

The most decisive singles match was Gilliss' 6-0, 6-2 victory at the sixth spot, while the majority of the others were closely contested. The Fighting Scots' Boo Flynn was on the wrong end of a three-setter at No. 3 that saw the final read 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, while teammate Suzanne Hamby did pick up a three-set win at No. 5. After splitting the first two sets 4-6 and 6-3, and with the teams' outcome already determined, they played a super tiebreaker, which Hamby took 10-5.

Next, Wooster takes on rival Wittenberg University (15-3, 1-1 NCAC) in a neutral-site match at Gambier, Ohio, Saturday.
