The College of Wooster women's tennis team put on a dominating display at D.J. Hard Memorial Courts on Monday afternoon, as the Fighting Scots shutout Muskingum University 9-0 in non-conference action at Wooster, Ohio.
Not only did Wooster (5-6) sweep Muskingum (1-3), but it only yielded a combined 12 games in eight of the nine matches. In other words, only one of the matches was somewhat close.
During doubles play, the Fighting Scots posted 8-0 shutouts at both No. 2, where Kimberly Carter and Laura Kummer teamed up, and No. 3, courtesy of the Rachel Appleton-Paula Trautvetter pairing. The top team of Catherine Christian and Rachel Molé completed the sweep via an 8-3 score.
Picking up a victory atop the singles lineup for the first time in her career was Rose Chiumento via 6-1, 6-2 sets, while Rachel Dietz and Appleton each recorded double bagels (6-0, 6-0) at the fourth and sixth spots, respectively. Additionally, Carter was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles and Kummer 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, and Elizabeth Brewington finished off the Muskies with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph.
Wooster returns to action on Wednesday at No. 27 ranked Case Western Reserve University (6-6).
