Wooster Tennis Programs Host 24-Hour Tennis Marathon to Benefit YMCA "The SPOT!" After-School Program

Wooster's tennis teams hosted a 24-hour tennis marathon over the weekend.

The College of Wooster men's and women's tennis teams partnered up with the Wooster YMCA by hosting a 24-hour tennis marathon over the weekend to benefit "The SPOT!" after-school program.

Over 70 people from the College and Wooster community participated in the event, raising nearly $1,000 in the process.

"The idea came from a similar experience I had as a kid," said Wooster women's head coach Amy Behrman. "Every year leading up to what was the RCA Championships in Indianapolis, my family and many of our friends would participate in a 24-hour tennis marathon for Fellowship of Christian Athletes."

"The men's and women's tennis teams (at the College) wanted to take the same idea and use tennis, a sport we are so passionate about, and that has provided us with so many opportunities, to help raise funds for a program that invests in the surrounding community," continued Behrman. "At the same time, this (partnership) brings awareness to the sport of tennis and broadens our relationships with the local tennis community."

"The SPOT!" is an after-school program run by the YMCA of Wooster that offers tutoring, arts and crafts, kids club, sports, hip hop aerobics, games, video games, snacks, and a warm, nurturing and safe environment. Its staffing is made up of experience counselors from the YMCA of Wooster and volunteers from the College.
