The College of Wooster women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season in convincing fashion with a 7-2 triumph over Baldwin Wallace University at Oberlin College's Heisman Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.
Wooster (2-3) junior Bonnie Salmeron and first-year Shannon Sertz didn't drop a game during their 8-0 win out of the third flight. Senior Elizabeth Brewington and first-year Joy Li team up for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, while senior Rachel Molé and junior Morgan Wagers earned a hard-fought 9-8 (3) win out of the top flight.
Molé's momentum carried over to singles play, where the senior dropped two games during a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position, a line score that was matched by Li out of the second flight.
Wagers and Sertz both won first-set tiebreakers before going on to pull away in their respective second sets. Wagers emerged with a 7-6 (7), 6-4 win, while Sertz's victory came via a 7-6 (4), 6-1 line score.
The Scots were right there in both points that went the Yellow Jackets' (1-2) way as Brewington and Salmeron dropped third-set super tiebreakers by 10-8 and 10-3 scores.
Wooster returns to action on Monday, March 13, when the Scots are slated to face Lynchburg (0-1) at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
