The College of Wooster women's tennis team opened its spring break slate with a home tri-match, during which the Fighting Scots bounced back from a 5-4 loss against Calvin College with a convincing 9-0 blanking over Capital University at Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.

Wooster (4-1) quickly swept the doubles points in Saturday's nightcap, as juniors Qingyue Li and Shannon Sertz downed Capital's (4-5) Madison Watt and Maria Sadek 8-1. Sophomores Sarah Duran and Laura Haley followed with an 8-2 win, while sophomore Kendra Devereux and first-year Meklit Minassie rounded out the scores with an 8-4 victory.

Wooster was extra impressive in singles play against the Crusaders, with the Scots dropping two or fewer games in five of the six matches. Duran and first-year Emma Saxton led the way with matching 6-0, 6-0 wins out of the second and sixth flights, while Devereux and Haley didn't drop a game in the first set en route to matching 6-0, 6-2 decisions at flights four and five.

Sertz (6-1, 6-1) and Li (6-4, 6-2) rounded out the results from the Capital match.

Earlier in the day, Wooster's top three singles players had the Scots positioned for success against the Knights (4-2), but Calvin ultimately prevailed behind wins at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles.

Duran tied the match at two all with a 6-2, 6-3 line in the second flight. Next, Li, who was part of Wooster's heartbreaking 8-7 (11) setback at No. 1 doubles against Calvin, gave the Scots a 3-2 lead with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 win over the Knights' Leah Newhof in the top flight.

Sertz (6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-2) rounded out the singles winners, while Duran and Haley posted an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

Calvin shutout Capital 9-0 in Saturday's neutral match.

Next, Wooster plays five matches in South Carolina, starting with Wednesday's 12:45 p.m. tilt against Webster University (Mo.) (2-2).
