WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's tennis team is back in the win column, as the Fighting Scots turned aside William Smith College 6-3 on Sunday morning at Aspen Racquet Club.

Wooster's (5-3) strong contributions in singles play was the difference in Sunday's win. There, first-year Ishika Gupta clinched the match with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win at No. 2 over Allie Perron. After Gupta's match wrapped up, senior Shannon Sertz rallied from a set down to beat William Smith's (0-3) Kate Foley 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Of note, the win marked Sertz's 42nd for her career in singles, and it's tied for the sixth-most in program history.

Earlier singles results saw junior Sarah Duran beat Katelyn Nguyen 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4, junior Laura Haley beat Morgan Hamre in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6, and first-year Kathryn Materick topped Charlotte Engebrecht 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5.

In doubles, Gupta and Materick picked up Wooster's first point of the morning. They beat Engebrect and Nguyen 8-6 in the second flight.

Next, Wooster opens its five-match slate in the Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, area with a noon match against LeTourneau University on March 9.
