Scots Wrap Up NCAC East Play Against Kenyon

Kenyon College, one of the powerhouse teams within the North Coast Athletic Conference swept The College of Wooster women's tennis team 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at the D.J. Hard Memorial Tennis Courts and Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.

In doubles, Anna Winslow and Victoria Vasquez beat senior Sarah Duran and first-year Kimberly Nguyen 8-0 at No. 2 for the first point, and that score was also the line at No. 3, where first-year Abby Aitken and junior Emma Saxton fell against Eleni Dakos and Erika Pontillo.

First-year Otilia Oita and senior Laura Haley were last to bow out in doubles, where they fell 8-1 against Daria Beshentseva and Erika Oku at No. 1.

In singles, Dakos beat senior Kendra Devereux 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 before Vasquez clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Haley in the third flight. Next, Catriona MacIntosh got the best of Saxton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. Then, at No. 1, Oita won two games off Oku, a national quarterfinalist in doubles in 2019, during a 6-0, 6-2 setback. Singles play was rounded out in the second and fourth flights. Duran dropped a 6-1, 6-0 match against Beshentseva at No. 2 and Nguyen fell 6-1, 6-1 against Winslow at No. 4.

Wooster's now 0-8 on the year and 0-6 in NCAC East Division play. Kenyon's now 4-0 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Ladies were ranked 12th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll published prior to the COVID pandemic in 2020. The organization has yet to publish Div. III rankings this year.

Wooster's rigorous schedule against many of the region's top teams continues on April 24, when the Scots head to Case Western Reserve University (3-0) for a 1 p.m. match.
