ITA NCAA Div. III Women's Academic Awards Release

It's a repeat for The College of Wooster's women's tennis team, which had 10 student-athletes named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Scholar-Athlete list, as announced by the coaching organization on Wednesday. Wooster, which also earned All-Academic Team honors, had the 10th-most honorees within NCAA Div. III, and it's the second straight year the Fighting Scots finished in the top-10.

Senior Kendra Devereux headlined Wooster's contingent, as the environmental geoscience alumna capped her career as a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete. Senior Sarah Duran, senior Laura Haley, and junior Becky LaRue earned their third ITA Scholar-Athlete certificate, while sophomores Amber Dinchman, Ishika Gupta, Katie Materick, and junior Emma Saxton earned their second. First-years Abby Aitken and Kimberly Nguyen rounded out Wooster's honorees. Earlier this summer, Devereux, Dinchman, Duran, Gupta, Haley, LaRue, Materick, and Saxton qualified for the NCAC Academic Honor Roll, and 80 percent – the highest of any team at the College – of eligible women's tennis student-athletes made that list.

Last year Wooster had 11 individual honorees, with that ranking ninth within Div. III. The Scots have earned 28 ITA Scholar-Athlete honors in the last three years.

Student-athletes must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year to qualify for ITA Scholar-Athlete honor, while teams must have a GPA of at least 3.2 for the most recent academic year. Within Div. III, 605 student-athletes and 144 programs were honored.
