SCOTS TUNE UP FOR FALL DUAL SLATE AT TRANSYLVANIA UNIVERSITY FALL INVITATIONAL

Abby Aitken LEXINGTON, Ky. – The College of Wooster women's tennis team won 13 matches over the weekend at the season-opening Transylvania University Fall Invitational, hosted at Top Seed Tennis Club in Lexington, Kentucky.

First-year Cherry Patlolla and junior Ishika Gupta won twice at No. 1 doubles. They beat Millikin University's Emily Markus and Paige Willer 8-4, and turned away Asbury University's Alexandra Lerma and Isabella Gutierrez 8-7. First-year Janaki Jagannathan also won twice at doubles. Against Millikin, sophomore Abby Aitken played with Jagannathan, and they beat Kourtney Kawata and Mary-Grayce Narron 8-1. Senior Emma Saxton was in on Jagannathan's win versus Asbury, as the duo shook hands with Cristina Borunda and Destiny Galvan at 8-4.

Sophomores Otilia Oita and Kim Nguyen blanked Asbury's Allie Sutton and Luciana Iriarte. Aitken and Nguyen rounded out the doubles winners with an 8-1 victory over Transylvania's Mallory Johnson and Claire Roland.

Patlolla won four matches on the weekend. In singles, the first-year swept Asbury's Iriarte 7-5, 6-1, and she bounced back from dropping set two to down Transylvania's Jessica Burton 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (8).

The Scots collected five wins in singles against Asbury. Oita took a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Lerma at No. 1, while Gupta won at the third flight versus Gutierrez 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7). Further down, Jagannathan got the best of Sutton 6-3, 6-1, and senior Becky LaRue won a tightly-contested tiebreaker to beat Narron 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (8).

Nguyen rounded out the winners with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Transylvania's Christina Duvall.

Next, Wooster's at Otterbein University for a dual match at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 11.
