Trio competes at ITA Regionals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The College of Wooster women's tennis team sent three student-athletes to Kalamazoo, Mich. to compete in the ITA Regional Championships this weekend.

Ishika Gupta and Cherry Patlolla teamed up in doubles play, while Otilia Oita joined Patlolla in singles action.

Oita saw the most success of the trio. In the first round she squared off against Savannah Bright, the fifth seed from Case Western Reserve University. Oita and Bright went to a shortened third set but Oita fell 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4).

Oita rebounded in the consolation bracket with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Lauren Oda from Augustana College to move on to play on Saturday. There she saw a familiar foe in DePauw University, Katherine Price.

Price ended Oita's tournament run with a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Patlolla and Gupta opened play on Friday and took an 8-4 loss to the fifth seeded team from the University of Chicago, Claudia Ng and Perene Wang.

Unfortunately for the duo, a injury to Patlolla kept them out of the consolation bracket.

Before the injury, Patlolla competed in her singles match and took a 6-1, 6-4 loss to the ninth seed Camila Gomez from Principia College. Patlolla then withdrew from the consolation bracket.

The ITA Regionals signal the end of the fall season for the women.
