12th-Ranked Denison Downs Wooster 7-2

Nguyen The College of Wooster women's tennis team lost to 12th-ranked Denison University 7-2 on Sunday.

Wooster's two wins came at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles flights.

First-year Janaki Jagannathan won a marathon of a match at No. 3 against Monique Brual, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (12). Sophomore Kim Nguyen won two tough sets 7-5, 6-3.

Denison controlled the match early after doubles play. The No. 1 doubles team of Otilia Oita and Jagannathan and the No. 2 team of Katie Materick and Abby Kushner Benson each fell 8-2. The No. 3 team of Nguyen and Cherry Patlolla fell 8-1.

Oita and Patlolla only mustered one game in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles flights, respectively. Oita fell 6-1, 6-0 and Patlolla 6-0, 6-1.

Materick took a 6-3, 6-2 loss at No. 5, while Abby Aitken fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

Denison improves to 2-1 on the year, while Wooster moves to 3-4. The Scots will travel to Case Western Reserve University on Friday.
