Scots Win Final Three Matches to Defeat Hornets

Oita The College of Wooster women's tennis team finished strong with its match against Kalamazoo College on Saturday with a 6-3 win.

The Scots were deadlocked 3-3 with the Hornets with Otilia OitaKim Nguyen and Katie Materick all undecided and playing third sets in their singles matches.

All three captured victories to send the Scots home victorious.

At No. 1, Oita fell behind but won the last two sets handedly, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 5, Materick also dropped the first set but reversed her fortunes in the next two with a 0-6, 6-4, 6-0 win.

Ngyuen won the first set at No. 4 and then finished the match on top 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

First-year Janaki Jagannathan also collected a singles win. She won at the No. 3 slot 6-0, 6-2.

Classmate Cherry Patlolla dropped a 3-setter in the No. 2 flight 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, and sophomore Abby Aitken took a loss in the No. 6 flight 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles play, Wooster's top team of Patlolla and Abby Kushner Benson fell 8-3. However, Wooster captured the next two flights as the No. 2 team of Jagannathan and Oita and the No. 3 team of Nguyen and Materick each won 8-4.

Wooster moves to 4-5 with the win, while Hornets fall to 0-4.

Wooster heads to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina for the start of its spring break trip. They open play March 15 against Concordia University (Wis.).
