Wooster Dispatches Archrival Wittenberg, 6-3

Otilia Oita, Wooster Tennis WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's tennis team downed the Fighting Scots' archnemesis, Wittenberg University, by a 6-3 score on Sunday afternoon at Aspen Racquet Club.

Wooster (9-7) seized control in doubles and never looked back en route to winning for the sixth time in its last eight matches. Sophomore Otilia Oita and first-year Janaki Jagannathan won 8-4 in the first flight, and juniors Abby Kushner Benson and Katie Materick secured the 2-1 advantage with an 8-6 win at No. 3. First-year Cherry Patlolla and sophomore Kim Nguyen fell 8-6 at No. 2.

Materick's 7-5, 6-0 win over Claire Stechow at fifth singles secured the win. Leading up to that, Patlolla made quick work of Meera Virk, taking a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2. Jagannathan's 12th win on the year at No. 3 went on the ledger as Wooster's fourth team point of the match. Jagannathan posted a 6-1, 6-2 line on Sunday.

Sophomore Abby Aitken won at No. 6, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (3), while Oita (4-6, 6-3, 0-1 (5)) and Nguyen (6-2, 3-6, 3-6) dropped their matches in flights one and four, respectively.

Next, Wooster returns to North Coast Athletic Conference East Division play, as the Scots are slated to host Allegheny College (5-6, 0-0 NCAC East) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.
