The newly regionally ranked College of Wooster women's tennis team took care of its first opponent since its new ranking, defeating Allegheny College 7-2 on Saturday in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
Wooster, now 10-7 on the year, recently entered in the ITA Central Regional rankings at 18th. Against Allegheny (6-7), Wooster opened with all three wins in doubles play.
The No. 1 team of Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan as well as the No. 3 team of Abby Kushner Benson and Katie Materick each took 8-3 victories. The No. 2 team of Kim Nguyen and Cherry Patlolla won 8-5.
Oita took a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Patlolla won in three sets at the No. 2 flight 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (8).
Jagannathan then made it 6-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 flight. Wooster's other win came at the No. 5 flight where Materick came out on top 6-3, 6-0.
Nguyen fell at the No. 4 flight 7-5, 6-3. Abby Aitken lost 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 6 flight.
Wooster moves to 1-1 in the East Division, while Allegheny drops to 0-1.
Next, Wooster will head to 21st-ranked Kenyon College on Wednesday for its last NCAC East Division matchup.
