21st-ranked Ladies Down Scots

GAMBIER – The College of Wooster women's tennis team fell to 21st-ranked Kenyon College on Wednesday, 8-1.

Both teams entered ranked regionally. Kenyon entered fourth and Wooster entered 18th. This was also the final NCAC East matchup of the year for Wooster.

Kenyon opened by sweeping doubles play.

Kenyon's No. 1 team of Daria Beshentseva and Eleni Dakos, who are ranked third in the region, downed Janaki Jagannathan and Otilia Oita 8-2.

Cherry Patlolla and Kim Nguyen lost 8-1 in the No. 2 flight, while Abby Kushner Benson and Katie Materick fell 8-0 in the No. 3 flight.

Wooster's lone win came from the No. 3 flight behind the racket of Jagannathan. She defeated Anna Winslow 6-4, 7-6 (5).

In the No. 1 flight, Oita fell 6-0, 6-0 to Beshentseva, who is ranked seventh regionally. Patlolla fell 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 flight.

At the No. 4 flight, Nguyen took a 6-4, 6-2 loss, while Materick fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5. Abby Aitken fell 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 6 flight.

Kenyon moves to 9-8 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC. Wooster is now 10-8 overall and 1-2 in divisional play.

The women wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they host Ohio Wesleyan University.
