Scots Take Sixth in NCAC Tournament

GAMBIER -- The College of Wooster women's tennis team took sixth in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament following a 5-3 loss to Wittenberg University in the fifth place match on Saturday.

Wooster started off well enough with a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan won 8-2 in the No. 1 flight, and Katie Materick and Abby Kushner Benson teamed for an 8-6 win in the No. 2 spot.

At No. 3 doubles, the team of Anesu Munyanyi and Abi Geremew fell 8-3.

The tides turned toward Wittenberg's favor in singles play as Jagannathan collected Wooster's lone win in the No. 2 flight, 6-0, 6-0. It was Jagannathan's team-high 19th singles win of the year.

Oita took a 6-2, 6-3 loss at the No. 1 flight. Materick fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, and Kushner Benson lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4.

Finally, Geremew lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6, while Munyani trailed in the unfinished No. 5 flight 7-5, 4-3.

Wittenberg entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed from the West, while the Scots were its equivalent from the East. The Scots took a 6-3 win against the Tigers earlier on April 3.

Ranked regionally for the first time since the 2018 season, the Scots wrap up its season with an 11-10 record.
