Wooster women's tennis ITA Scholar-Athletes NCAA Div. III ITA Women's Academic Release

The College of Wooster women's tennis team once again qualified for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-Academic Team award, while six Fighting Scots made this year's ITA Scholar-Athlete list, as announced recently by the coaching association. Wooster's Scholar-Athletes were Abi Geremew, Janaki Jagannathan, Becky LaRue, Katie Materick, Kim Nguyen, and Cherry Patlolla.

Geremew debuted in Wooster's lineup at fifth singles against DePauw University in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

Jagannathan turned in one of the top first-year seasons in program history, evidenced by earning NCAC Newcomer of the Year, first-team All-NCAC doubles, and second-team All-NCAC singles honors. The first-year went 19-5 on the year in singles, which included a 16-3 ledger in the third flight. Her 19 singles wins rank as the second-most in single-season program history.

LaRue, the lone four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete among this year's Wooster qualifiers, saw a senior season headlined by a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (8) win against Asbury University in the fall.

Materick, now a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, enjoyed a successful season, evidenced by a 14-5 mark in singles, which included a 12-4 record in the fifth flight. The junior won 28 matches on the year, with the other 14 (14-6) coming in doubles. She strung together a 10-match winning streak in singles from March 4 through April 9.

Nguyen, a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, went 13-7 in singles, including 11-6 in the fourth flight. The sophomore added 11 doubles wins, finishing with an overall record of 11-8. She tied for the third-most fourth singles wins in single-season program history.

Patlolla earned honorable mention All-NCAC honors in singles. The first-year heled down the second flight, where she won eight matches on the year, including four straight at the start of the team's annual spring break trip.

Of note, Wooster has earned 34 ITA Scholar-Athlete awards in the last four years.

Student-athletes must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current academic year to qualify for ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, while teams must have a GPA of at least 3.2 for the current academic year.
