Scots Drop Pair of Sunday Matches

The College of Wooster women's tennis team took a pair of Sunday losses at Aspen Racquet Club, falling 6-3 to Otterbein University and 9-0 to Carnegie Mellon University.

Senior Otilia Oita gave the Scots two wins against the Cardinals. She teamed with Janaki Jagannathan for an 8-5 No. 1 doubles win and later took the No. 1 singles win 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Wooster's other win came at the No. 3 flight as Abby Williams won 6-1, 6-4.

Two other matches went to three sets. Jagannathan won her first set but ultimately fell in the No. 2 flight 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-4. Lauren Richmond took a similar route in the No. 4 flight 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

At the No. 5 flight, Abby Aitken attempted a comeback but fell short 6-3, 7-6 (5).

Earlier in the day, Wooster fell to 10th-ranked Carnegie Mellon 9-0.

All singles flights went down in straight sets. Oita gave the Scots their best set, falling 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 1 flight, while Richmond took a 6-4, 6-3 loss at No. 5.

In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Oita and Jagannathan as well as the No. 3 team of Williams and Margaret Steward took an 8-4 loss.

Wooster moves to 1-5.

Next, the Scots open North Coast Athletic Conference play on March 1 when they host Denison University.
