Women’s Tennis Snags Win in First Half of Spring Trip

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The College of Wooster women's tennis team almost started 2-0 on its spring break trip in Hilton Head, S.C., but they'll have to settle being 1-1 halfway through its four-match stay.

The Scots started with a narrow 5-4 loss to Shenandoah University on Monday but rebounded with a 6-3 win over Carroll University on Tuesday.

In the win, the Scots benefited from two doubles win. Janaki Jagannathan and Otilia Oita won 8-4 in the No. 1 flight, and Abby Williams and Abby Aitken won by the same score in the No. 2 flight.

Those four Scots all got the job done in their singles flights.

Oita took a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 1 flight, and Jagannathan won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 flight. Williams won 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 3 flight, and Aitken won 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 4 flight.

Elsewhere, Naledi Jani and Margaret Steward took a tough 8-6 loss in the No.3 doubles flight. Steward fell 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles flight, and Carter Pepa lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.

In the match against Shenandoah, Wooster took another two wins in doubles play. Oita and Jagannathan won 8-6 in the No. 1 flight, and Aitken and Williams won 8-5 in the No. 2 slot.

In singles action, Jagannathan won 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 flight, and Williams won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.

The Scots have two more games in Hilton Head. They face Lake Forest College on Thursday and Grinnell College on March 18.
