Jagannathan Makes Run at ITA Regional Tournament
Senior makes it to semifinals of consolation bracket
KALAMAZOO, Michigan – Senior Janaki Jagannathan advanced all the way to the semifinals of the consolation bracket at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region Tournament, which took place this weekend at Kalamazoo College.
In singles, Jagannathan earned a seeded spot at No. 17, and thus had a first-round bye. The senior dropped a 6-4, 6-1 match to North Central College's Priya Harris. In the consolation bracket, Jagannathan made the impressive run, topping Denison University's Elizabeth Hoo 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (3). That was follwed up with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Adrian College's Claire Earley. In the consolation round of 16, Jagannathan turned away DePauw University's Valerie Doherty 6-2, 6-3. Jagannathan advanced to the semifinals on an injury withdrawal by the quarterfinal opponent. The senior fell to John Carroll University's Evelyn Deren 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (7) in the semifinal.
In doubles, Jagannathan and first-year Elyse Errington won their opening match, 8-7 (5) over Oberlin College's Freya Rahm and Eva Lopez. Wooster's duo then fell 8-0 to fourth-seeded Caitlin Bui and Eleanor Archer, who play for Washington University in St. Louis.
Errington's singles' play started with a 6-0, 6-0 setback against Hope College's Hadley Krygier. The first-year then lost 6-0, 6-1 against Wittenberg University's Caroline Sproule in the consolation bracket.
Of note, Jagannathan now ranks in the top-five in program history in total wins (87) and singles wins (49).
The ITA Regional Tournament concluded Wooster's fall season.
