Scots Suffer First Loss of Season
Jagannathan, Kadirova pick up singles wins in 5-2 defeat
The College of Wooster women's tennis team took its first loss of the season, 5-2, against Kalamazoo University on Sunday at Aspen Racquet Tennis Club.
First-year Kamila Kadirova gave Wooster its first point, taking a win in the No. 6 singles position. Kadirova cruised in the first set but had to fight to close out the second set for the 6-0, 7-5 win.
The lone three-set match came at the No. 1 flight where Janaki Jagannathan faced Addison Lyons. Jagannathan battled to collect the win, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
It was Jagganathan's 53rd career singles win, tying her for second-most in program history.
Wooster lost in straight sets the rest of the way but were not shut out in singles play.
At the No. 2 flight, Stephanie Murarus fell 6-2, 6-1, and at No. 3, Elyse Errington lost 6-2, 6-2.
Jade Adkins took a 6-3, 6-2 loss at No. 4, while Naledi Jani fell 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 5 flight.
Wooster lost a point early by getting swept in doubles play. The No. 1 team of Jagannathan and Errington, as well as the No. 3 team of Kadirova and Adkins, took 6-4 losses.
The No. 2 team of Sarah Mashaal and Murarus fell 6-0.
Wooster moves to 2-1 on the young season. The Scots will face off against John Carroll University next Saturday at The Wembley Club in Chagrin Falls.
