Scots Face Capital on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Match
Jagannathan scores pair of victories to move further up record books
The College of Wooster women's tennis team fell to Capital University, 5-2, on Sunday.
The Scots also showed appreciation to faculty and staff members, inviting them to Aspen Racquet Club to watch the match and be recognized by the student-athletes.
For the match, senior Janaki Jagannathan captured wins in singles and doubles play.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Jagannathan and Elyse Errington came from behind for a 7-5 win over Anna Fletcher and Nicole Flock.
However, the win came when Capital already captured the doubles point with victories at the other two flights.
The No. 3 match completed first with the duo of Jade Adkins and Kamila Kadirova falling 6-2, while the No. 2 team of Stephanie Murarus and Sarah Mashaal took a 6-4 loss.
In singles, Jagannathan made quick work of Fletcher, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 1 flight.
Wooster's other win came from Errington in a three-setter in the No. 4 flight, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
The No. 5 and No. 6 flights also went the way of three sets, but the Scots wound up on the wrong end despite first set victories.
At No. 5, Kadirova lost 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, while Naledi Jani took a 6-3, 2-6, 1-6 defeat at the No. 6 flight.
Adkins nearly went three sets in the No. 3 flight after scoring at least five games in each set, but she fell 7-6 (1), 7-5.
Finally, Murarus took a 6-2, 6-3 loss at the No. 2 flight.
Focusing more on Jagannathan's victories, it was her 54th singles win for sole possession of second all-time in program history. It was her 41st doubles win to tie for eighth in program history, and she also is in a tie for fourth with 95 total wins.
The Scots will be in action again on March 3 when they host Otterbein University.
