The College of Wooster women's tennis team captured a win in its first action of North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, defeating Wittenberg University, 5-2.
In rare form, the Scots won without needing a point from senior Janaki Jagannathan, who teamed with Elyse Errington for a 6-3 loss at No. 1 doubles and fell at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2. Errington, however, had a gritty win at the No. 3 singles flight, winning 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-1.
Wooster claimed the doubles point with a win at No. 2 as Jade Adkins and Kamila Kadirova won 6-3. Wittenberg (0-9, 0-1 NCAC) did not field a team at No. 3 nor did they at No. 6 singles.
That meant Errington and Adkins's win were enough to seal the win for Wooster (5-6, 1-0 NCAC). Adkins won 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 flight, while Kadirova wrapped the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 5 flight.
Lastly, at the No. 2 flight, Stephanie Murarus lost 6-4, 6-1.
Next, there will be little rest for the Scots as they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University for another NCAC match on Sunday.
