DELAWARE – The College of Wooster women's tennis team suffered its first North Coast Athletic Conference loss on Sunday, falling to Ohio Wesleyan University, 6-1.
Senior Janaki Jagannathan gave Wooster its lone win in a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 flight. The No. 2 and No. 3 flights each came down to three sets, but Wooster fell in each.
Stephanie Murarus unfortunately had to retire after forcing a third set in the No. 2 flight, falling 6-1, 4-6, 1-0. At the No. 3 flight, Elyse Errington also forced a third set but ultimately fell 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Jade Adkins in the No. 4 flight and Willow Hernishin in the No. 6 flight each took a 6-1, 6-0 loss. Kamila Kadirova lost 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 5 flight.
In doubles play, Murarus and Hernishin had a narrow defeat in the No. 3 flight, 7-5. The No. 1 team of Jagannathan and Errington as well as the No. 2 team of Adkins and Kadirova each lost by a score of 6-1.
Wooster moves to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Next, the Scots face off against Oberlin College on Wednesday.
