Wooster Goes 1-3 in Season-Opening Tournament

Searching for its first marks in the victory column on the young season, The College of Wooster volleyball team tallied a 1-3 record Friday and Saturday during the River City Tournament. The two-day, six-school event was held inside Ban Johnson Arena on Fenton Court on the campus of Marietta College.

In the nightcap on Friday, Wooster cruised past Bluffton College. The Scots got the better of the Beavers by a 3-0 score (25-21, 25-21, 25-21), but Bluffton avenged that loss by coming back for a 3-1 win (16-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-15) in the final match of the tournament against the Scots. Friday's action started off in tough fashion for the Scots, who suffered a 3-1 setback (25-14, 25-17, 18-25, 28-26) at the hands of Grove City College.

In the first match of Saturday morning's action, Wooster rallied to tie the match at two sets each before Thiel College posted a 3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 15-12) win over the Scots.

Marietta, Bluffton and Thiel each posted 3-1 records over the two-day event. Grove City went 2-2, while Wooster went 1-3 and Oberlin College was 0-4.

Seniors Megan Earle and Ali Drushal were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.

Complete statistics from this weekend's matches will be available Tuesday.

Wooster has nearly a week off before it travels to Baldwin-Wallace College next Friday and Saturday to take part in the Marcia French Memorial Tournament. The Scots will take on Trine University and Alma College on Friday, and will square off against the host Yellow Jackets and Westminster College on Saturday.
