Wooster Splits A Pair of Matches, Including Win in NCAC Tilt Over Kenyon
Wooster split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon inside Timken Gymnasium as part of a tri-match with North Coast Athletic Conference foe Kenyon College and Malone College. With the one conference win and one non-conference defeat, the Fighting Scots moved their record to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC.
WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster split a pair of matches
Saturday afternoon inside Timken Gymnasium as part of a tri-match
with North Coast Athletic Conference foe Kenyon College and Malone
College. With the one conference win and one non-conference defeat,
the Fighting Scots moved their record to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in
the NCAC.
Following their 3-0 win over Oberlin College on Wednesday, the
Scots came out with a purpose against the Ladies, winning each set
in convincing fashion. Wooster swept the Ladies by convincing
scores of 25-18, 25-10, 25-7. The Wooster offensive surge was led
by junior KateLynn Riley who knocked down 11 kills on just 21
attempts with one error along with three service aces, while
freshman Kate Brady and Sarah Hawke each had five kills, and senior
Megan Earle and freshman Meredith Kiefer added four kills
apiece.
Defensively, Ali Drushal paced the team with 16 digs, while Earle
tallied eight of her own. The Scots dominated the net, as Hawke
recorded five block assists. Riley aided the cause with four block
assists along with Kiefer's one block solo and two block
assists and Sarah Lorch's three block assists.
Malone (15-7) battled the Scots for three grueling sets after the
Pioneers had downed Kenyon in straight sets (25-7, 25-13, 25-16) in
the day's second match. Malone came right back and delivered the
points needed to knock out Wooster, beating the hosts in three
(25-17, 28-26, 25-20). Riley again led the way with 15 kills for
the Scots, while Earle knocked down eight.
Earle had a good all-around match, leading the Scot defense with 17
digs against Malone. Drushal and sophomore Abby Jensen were each in
double figures in digs with 16 and 10, respectively. Lizzi Beal and
Riley had big matches at the net, as each recorded two block solos
and three block assists.
Beal continued her setting duties with 54 assists over the two
matches along with seven kills.
Wooster heads back into league play for three of its four matches
this week as the Scots first make the trek down to Delaware, Ohio
on Wednesday for an NCAC match-up with the Battling Bishops of Ohio
Wesleyan University. The first game is slated to begin at 7
p.m.
