Scots Go 2-1 During Trio of Weekend Matches
Wooster easily defeated Earlham in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-13. During a tri-match Saturday, the Scots ran into a buzzsaw in North Coast Athletic Conference powerhouse and No.8 ranked Wittenberg, falling by scores of 11-25, 15-25, 11-25. During the second match of the day, Wooster avenged a pair of losses during the 2007 season to Mt. Union, coming out on top in three sets by tallies of 25-14, 25-17, 25-23.
The College of Wooster volleyball team easily defeated Earlham
College in straight sets Friday night in Richmond, Ind. by scores
of 25-17, 25-21, 25-13. During a tri-match Saturday, the Scots ran
into a buzzsaw in North Coast Athletic Conference powerhouse and
No.8 ranked Wittenberg University, falling by scores of 11-25,
15-25, 11-25 in the opener of a tri-match hosted by the Tigers.
During the second match of the day, Wooster avenged a pair of
losses during the 2007 season to Mt. Union College, coming out on
top in three sets by tallies of 25-14, 25-17, 25-23.
Leading the Scots' offensive charge was junior KateLynn
Riley, who pounded down a combined 36 kills on 72 attempts with
just 10 errors for a .361 hitting percentage. Highlighting her
stellar weekend was a 12-kill performance on 20 attempts with no
hitting errors against the Purple Raiders, who fall to 14-4
overall. Senior Abbie Casey finished with 19 kills and three
service aces, while classmate Megan Earle tallied 11 kills. Setter
Lizzi Beal concluded her weekend with 65 assists, including 26
helpers in the victory over Earlham.
Defensively, senior libero Ali Drushal notched 52 digs along with a
team-high four service aces, while Earle finished with 24 digs.
Riley completed her all-around weekend with a combined four solo
and two assisted blocks, including three solo and one block assist
against Earlham.
The Scots will look to get above the .500 mark in the NCAC and keep
their home record perfect inside Timken Gymnasium when they host
the Oberlin College Yeowomen in a match Wednesday at 7 p.m.
