Scots Notch 10th NCAC Win With 3-1 Triumph Over Oberlin
The Wooster volleyball team collected its 10th North Coast Athletic Conference victory this season by besting host Oberlin three sets to one (25-21, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20).
The College of Wooster volleyball team collected its 10th North
Coast Athletic Conference victory this season Friday evening by
besting host Oberlin College three sets to one (25-21, 25-17,
20-25, 25-20). With the win, the Scots improve to 16-12 overall and
10-3 in league action this season.
Freshman Meredith Kiefer led the Scots past the Yeowomen (7-19, 6-8
NCAC), slamming down a team- and career-high 11 kills on a .391
hitting percentage. Also adding offensive firepower to a balanced
Wooster attack was junior KateLynn Riley with 10 kills, while
senior Megan Earle nearly posted a double-double with nine kills
and 17 digs.
At the net defensively, junior Sarah Lorch was a force to be
reckoned with, recording three solo and three block assists in
addition to five kills, while Riley registered two solo and two
block assists.
Setter Lizzi Beal recorded a double-double dishing out 37 assists
to go along with 10 digs on the evening, adding four kills, a
service ace, and a block assist in guiding the Scots'
offense.
Defensively, libero Ali Drushal recorded 22 digs, while the
sophomore duo of Abby Jensen and Amanda Gottesman each tallied
seven digs, respectively. Also of note, Gottesman notched a team-
and career-best three service aces.
The Scot spikers will next hit the court on Saturday afternoon when
they travel to NCAC foe Kenyon College for a tri-match. The Scots
will first play the Ladies (0-25, 0-14 NCAC) at 1 p.m., followed by
a non-conference match with Otterbein College (8-19), a team
Wooster defeated in straight sets back on Sept. 12 inside Timken
Gymnasium.
