Scots Sweep Denison For Win No. 20
The Wooster volleyball team posted its first 20-win season since 2005 by sweeping Denison 25-20, 25-22, 25-17. The Fighting Scots move to 20-12 this fall and 13-3 in the NCAC, notching their first 20-victory season since the 2005 squad went 25-7.
WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster volleyball team posted
its first 20-win season since 2005 by sweeping Denison University
25-20, 25-22, 25-17 in North Coast Athletic Conference action at
Timken Gymnasium Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. The Fighting
Scots move to 20-12 this fall and 13-3 in the NCAC, notching their
first 20-victory season since the 2005 squad went 25-7.
Wooster put the pressure on the Big Red (10-18, 7-9 NCAC) early
and often by connecting on 42 kills for a .301 hitting percentage.
Junior KateLynn Riley led the way with 16 kills, while senior Megan Earle was also in double figures with 10 kills on 17 attempts with
two errors for .471 hitting percentage. Additionally, freshmen
Meredith Kiefer and Sarah Hawke each tallied four kills.
Freshman setter Lizzi Beal posted 35 assists, two kills and a
service ace. With those 35 assists, Beal moves into fifth place on
Wooster's all-time laurels for a single-season with 1,067.
Defensively, Ali Drushal and Earle led the team with 14 and 15
digs, respectively, while Riley recorded a block solo and three
block assists. Also of note, Hawke finished with three block
assists, while junior Sarah Lorch racked up three kills and three
block assists.
Wooster, who enters the NCAC postseason tournament as the No. 2
seed while riding a six-match winning streak, will face No. 3 seed
Hiram College, who the Scots split with this season, Friday evening
at 8 p.m. or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first
match. The other semifinal will put No. 1 seed Wittenberg
University against No. 4 seed Allegheny College.
