Volleyball Picks Up Two Wins at Marcia French Memorial Tournament

The College of Wooster stormed by Franciscan University and John Carroll University in straight sets, highlighting its 2-2 split this weekend at the Marcia French Memorial Tournament, which included nine NCAA Div. III schools, and was co-hosted by both Baldwin-Wallace College and Case Western Reserve University.

Sophomore libero Kelley Johnson had a memorable weekend as she was named to the all-tournament team and set a career-high with 48 digs in Wooster's five-set heartbreaker against Baldwin-Wallace (23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 20-25, 11-15) on Friday night. At one point, the Scots trailed 24-17 in the second set only to see Johnson serve nine-straight points, with the ninth being an ace, to notch an unlikely comeback win.

In its sweep over Franciscan (25-20, 25-17, 25-18), Wooster controlled the match throughout behind strong efforts from sophomore hitter's Melissa Morgan (14 kills, 11 digs) and Erin Webster (11 kills, 18 digs). Webster also recorded 19 kills and 19 digs against Baldwin-Wallace, giving her 30 kills and 47 digs during Friday's matches alone.

The Scots started second day action with a decisive win against John Carroll (25-21, 25-13, 25-16), behind efficient production from Zoe Zwegat. The first-year hitter totaled eight kills and just one error, while adding five more blocks to her team-leading total. Junior setter Lizzi Beal was also productive in totaling 27 assists and 12 digs.

In a competitive loss to Case Western Reserve (19-25, 22-25, 24-26), Webster and Morgan each chipped in with 10 kills, while first-year Erica Skillman smashed down eight kills and zero errors at the middle-hitter position.

Wooster will be back in action Wednesday night when it travels to Muskingum University (3-2) for a 7 p.m. start.
