Wooster Drops Denison During NCAC Weekend's Conclusion

The College of Wooster volleyball team dealt Denison University a 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-13) defeat, but then was overwhelmed by nationally ranked Wittenberg University (25-16, 25-23, 25-12) on Sunday during the North Coast Athletic Conference weekend at Hiram, Ohio.

The Scots (10-9, 2-2 NCAC) were efficient in taking down Denison, (3-16, 1-3 NCAC), especially during the second set, when they recorded 12 kills and just two errors on 23 attempts (.434 hitting percentage). Erin Webster led Wooster in kills with eight, while Paige Parker and Zoe Zwegat each chipped in seven. Lizzi Beal dished out assists at a high rate, totaling 32 in the three-set match.

Wittenberg (13-2, 3-1 NCAC) proved to be too much for Wooster, but the Scots did lead 23-22 in the second set before allowing the Tigers to come from behind. Kelley Johnson and Beal led a solid defensive effort, recording 21 and 19 digs, respectively. The offense was paced by Sarah Hawke's six kills.

Next up on the schedule is a non-conference match with Otterbein College (12-4) Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
