Wooster Spikers Top Allegheny, Oberlin During NCAC Weekend

<a href= The College of Wooster volleyball team continued to position itself among the best in North Coast Athletic Conference by recording wins over Allegheny College and Oberlin College, and just missing against league powerhouse Hiram College, during this season's second NCAC weekend at Oberlin, Ohio.

In their second match with Allegheny this week, the Scots (16-11, 7-3 NCAC) again were victorious, this time using a 3-2 (20-25, 25-28, 18-25, 25-23, 15-13) result to get the job done. Paige Parker paced Wooster with 16 kills, 16 digs, and three service aces, while Erin Webster and Sarah Hawke each smashed down another nine kills. Freshman middle hitter Zoe Zwegat was strong in the blocking game, totaling three solo blocks and two assists.

Oberlin stole a set against Wooster, but otherwise the Scots were decisive in a 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-14, 25-15) triumph, behind Hawke's 12 kills. Lizzi Beal totaled 31 assists and was dominant at the service line (5 aces), and Erika Skillman contributed three solo blocks in the win.

Despite coming up short in a marathon-like battle with Hiram (23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 24-26, 10-15), Wooster showed it can hang with the league's best and had several impressive individual performances. Leading the team in kills was Webster with 14, and she also added 15 digs and three solo blocks. Kelley Johnson totaled 30 digs and seven assists, while Beal passed out 44 assists and added two more service aces.

Next up for Wooster is a Friday evening home match with archrival Wittenberg University (21-2, 11-1 NCAC) at 8 p.m.
