Wooster Sweeps Kenyon, Falls to DePauw at NCAC Play Date

The College of Wooster volleyball team played in North Coast Athletic Conference action for the first time this season, and they split their matches, sweeping Kenyon College and falling to DePauw University in four sets Saturday afternoon during day one of an NCAC Play Date at Gambier, Ohio.

The Scots (10-3, 1-1 NCAC) overmatched the Ladies (5-8, 0-1 NCAC), winning by set scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-22. Lizzi Beal showed up all over the stat sheet, recording 10 kills, 16 assists, and a season-high six service aces in the victory. As a team, Wooster totaled 10 service aces in all, with Margaret Raabe and Melissa Morgan each chipping in two as well. Kelley Johnson and Zoe Zwegat paced the defense, totaling 16 digs and five block assists, respectively.

In the second match, Wooster dropped DePauw (10-4, 1-0 NCAC) in the first set, but the Tigers finished strong and handed the Scots a 25-21, 19-25, 10-25, 23-25 setback. Paige Parker had her best showing of the season, totaling 12 kills and zero errors on 37 swings, while adding 12 digs. Also noteworthy, Beal had seven kills, 20 assists, and 13 digs, Johnson had 18 digs, and Zwegat made her presence felt at the net with seven total blocks (six assists, one solo).

Tomorrow is the second day of the first of two NCAC Play Dates this season. Wooster will face off against Wittenberg University at 10 a.m. and Hiram College at 2 p.m.
