WOOSTER, Ohio – In one of the more closely contested matches of the season, The College of Wooster volleyball team bounced back after dropping the opening set to win the next three in a row, topping Kenyon College by set scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-14, and 25-23 Wednesday evening in a North Coast Athletic Conference match-up at Timken Gymnasium.

The Scots (12-4, 3-2 NCAC) swept the Ladies (7-10, 2-3 NCAC) last weekend, but it took a lot more to come out victorious tonight. In the opening set, Wooster recorded an uncharacteristic 11 errors, and saw their 16-12 lead turn into a 25-21 setback.

Wooster again jumped out to a decisive advantage in the second set, after a big double block by Melissa Morgan and Lizzi Beal made it 12-7. But once again, Kenyon mounted a comeback and tied the match at 15 all. Finally, some strong serving by Beal down the stretch helped the Scots pull away and tie the match at one set apiece.

The third set was Wooster's strongest, as it totaled 12 kills and just two errors on 25 swings (.400 hitting percentage). Beal, Morgan, and Catherine Benton each smashed down three kills in the set, and Erica Skillman powered down the final point to give Wooster its 25-14 win.

Finally in the fourth, the Scots led by as much as seven (12-5), but some miscues allowed Kenyon to get within 21-19 late in the set. At that juncture, Morgan, Paige Parker, and Autumn Berry were all involved in some exciting hustle plays where they tracked down balls well out of play to keep a volley going, which sparked the team's eventual 25-23 victory.

Overall, Morgan led the team with 10 kills, while Skillman and Benton each had eight kills with .375 and .467 hitting percentages, respectively. Beal dished out 26 assists and had four service aces, and Kelley Johnson had a match-high 19 digs.

The Scots will head to Earlham College for a non-conference tilt Friday at 6 p.m.
